Muhurat (lit. "moment") is the Vedic discipline of selecting the right time to begin any new endeavour — marriage, business, journey, ceremony, even daily prayer. Auspicious muhurats arise when the day's tithi (lunar day), nakshatra (lunar mansion), yoga, karana, and weekday combine favourably with the current planetary hour. Brahma Muhurat (the period beginning ~96 minutes before sunrise) and Abhijit Muhurat (the noon-centred half-hour) are universally auspicious. The Choghadiya system additionally divides day and night into 8 muhurats each, classifying them as Amrut/Shubh/Labh (highly auspicious), Char (good for travel), or Kaal/Rog/Udveg (avoid).
